![]() we had 2 attentive bartenders who really took great care of us! a lot of reviews said this place had bad service but i think that was because they get really busy. the place was pretty empty which is one of the reasons i wanted to come early. we arrived a little after it opened at 5pm on a friday. When dry january ended this was the first place i wanted to come. this place seems to get worse with every visit and I believe it is time to retire it from places to visit. It was also twice as dark as usual that night and it was ridiculously dark to the point you could not even read any menus. Food? It was only fries and hummus and it finally came out 45 minutes later and not looking good at all. There is no doubt in my mind that the original chef/cook is long gone and that is a shame.Their set-up for service is horrible if you are not sitting at the bar. ![]() 2 glasses of wine never came and I went back 15 minutes later to request they pour them for me as I wait for them at bar. We had to order drinks and food at a service bar and they are to be delivered using a numbered sign system. ![]() 4th visit was this past Friday and it was incredibly crowded already at 6 and we did not sit at the bar for the first but instead at a couch/table/chairs combo. no more nothing except lamb meatball & french fries. Seems the entire menu is half of what it was and their new found specialty is a burger and fries. We were able to slip in to 2 seats at the bar and enjoyed our wine but noticed that the food selections (especially for happy hour) are extremely limited and hardly a deal. We went a third time after doing some Holiday shopping in the area, again for happy hour. Then it really became popular since it has a unique setting with an elegant layout, chandeliers, and a certain amount of sophistication not normally seen around those parts of Baltimore. The 2nd time we went, it was closer to the first visit and we again had good wine w/ some quality apps with some family members with the only downside an obnoxious bartender dripping with sarcasm. They had some really good food including house made pate w/ crusty bread and seafood dishes that were nicely plated. When they first opened last year, we went and thoroughly enjoyed sitting at the bar and enjoying nicely made and served (and Pricey) cocktails. My wife and I have been to the Bluebird 4 times and I believe each visit my opinion goes down further. It is a trendy area with numerous shops and restaurants which could make parking a challenge so maybe Uber or public transportation would be reasonable alternatives. It was worth the trip outside the city center. Its a great place and the out of the way neighborhood location only adds to the appeal. They even offered to ship the small bag of souvenirs we left on a hook under the bar unfortunately by the time we asked the items had been found by another patron or tossed, I appreciated the consideration none the less. I leaned more towards there specialty offerings and found the Voodoo Queen and She Trembles quite nice. My boyfriend enjoyed the absinthe drip, not something you see much these days and our skilled and attentive bartender also made him another of his favorites, a Sazerac. it is subtle enough to be easily dismissed by those not interested in books. The blue interior was pleasant and the literary theme was an added delight for a. It is an upscale bar with crafted cocktails and a few food items that seemingly accompany the cocktails well. The Bluebird is a contemporary take on a old fashioned speakeasy. The Bluebird business model seems to be based on appealing to the younger crowd with an undeveloped palette and money to spend. Really? When you are charging $15 per drink, why not have some quality liquors? My Old Forester Old Fashioned was $21! For $21, I expect to have a good quality whiskey or bourbon. The bartender said the focus is on their offered mixed drinks. I then decided to switch to an Old Fashioned only to find out that the Bluebird offers two bourbons/whiskeys - Old Granddad which is on the lowest level of bourbons and Old Forester which is a serviceable bourbon. It had the overall feeling of cocktails for new drinkers. Again the taste was OK but the texture and fizzy feel was unexpected. However, the cherry syrup listed on the menu turned out to be cherry soda. My husband had the Sleep after Love which looked to be a Cherry Manhattan. While the cocktail had a nice flavor, the more I drank the more bits of berries and sediment I had - a little too lumpy at the end to be enjoyable. I had the Blood of a God which featured brandy, crushed berries and prosecco. We were walk-ins so we sat at one of the two communal tables and ordered from the. The space has a wonderful speak easy atmosphere. My husband and I were looking forward to our visit to the Bluebird after looking at the drink menu online.
